Co-founder Spotlight: Brandon Hernandez

Brandon Hernandez, the co-founder of Whole Brain Consulting, is a high-risk quality and food safety consultant with 15+ years of expertise in every aspect of food safety, R&D and sanitation applications. We asked Brandon to tell us a little about his work history and what led him to co-found Whole Brain Consulting.
“I was getting my degree in Biology at CSU, and I had shadowed doctors and had worked in the microbiology lab when discovered I was not interested in pursuing research on that level. The people with whom I worked did not seem very excited about their work, and I wanted a challenge with real world applications.
“My stepmother happened to work at a plant that manufactured beans for Taco Bell, and she got me a job there in the facility office. While working there, I got to dip my toe in supply chain, logistics and APAR and production scheduling, and I found it all interesting. A spot opened up in the lab, and I took it. Most of my fellow alumni were working at banks as tellers whereas I felt like I got to do enough micro-swabbing and chemistry that I was using my degree.
“From there I went to Rodell Custom Blending, and then to Whitewave Foods (formerly Zateca Foods), to Prime Choice and ultimately to Claremont. I was employee number three at Claremont, so I remember when Claremont was an empty building and got to be a part of the expansion as it grew to a completely built out facility. At Claremont, I worked in R&D, QA, operational support and cost projection.
“I went out on my own as food safety consultant five years ago, expanded the business to include operations, R&D, QQ and sanitation. Three and a half years ago Will and I started to do work together, and three years ago we executed the merger. Now we are Whole Brain Consulting.”
